EUR/USD outlook: near-term bullish tilt, but French political risk looms over the medium term.
Published research this week leans modestly higher on the euro, with several analysts arguing markets have overpriced further Fed tightening. That view sees the dollar's yield edge eroding, with one camp targeting EUR/USD near 1.18 by year-end — explicitly conditional on the Fed staying on hold. A second supportive thread points to hawkish ECB rhetoric and rising market pricing for additional euro-area hikes as near-term support.
The bearish case is mostly political. One strand of recent analysis flags a growing probability of Marine Le Pen contesting the French presidency, arguing this should rebuild a political risk premium into the euro as the election approaches — even if markets have shrugged so far. A separate tactical view expects EUR/USD to dip below 1.14 in the short run if the Fed narrative reasserts itself and yield spreads swing back toward the dollar.
The apparent contradictions largely reflect different time horizons rather than genuine disagreement.
