Published research this week lines up firmly bullish on copper, and the case rests on demand forces that aren't going away.
One central bank official has publicly flagged surging copper wiring prices tied to AI data center construction, alongside rising mining activity and higher imported-metals inflation in Japan this fiscal year. A separate strand of research names copper as a core beneficiary of the US and global energy grid rebuild, pointing to the heavy copper needs of both renewables and new data infrastructure — a demand pull expected to run for years. A third, more strategic view from base-metals researchers adds the supply side: a decade of underinvestment and long lead times for new mines set up a multi-year upcycle as real-economy infrastructure spending picks up.
The horizons differ — one near-term and cyclical, the others multi-year and structural — but the direction is the same, and analysts flag no meaningful bearish offset today. The instruments in focus are LME and COMEX copper.
